Hanging in Time
Up above Colorado's main drive across the Rockies sits a gem that is uniquely Colorado. Hanging Lake is a small clear turquoise lake suspended in Glenwood Canyon’s cliffs. Although easily accessible from the I-70 highway, the 3.2 mile 1220-foot climb is not for everyone. This geological wonder is a breathtaking and rewarding site for those who make the journey. On this mid-winter trip, the trail was covered in ice but the sun was shining and the stream alongside the trail was filled with interesting ice flows. When I arrived at the top and saw the crystal-clear water and the frozen icicles, I knew it would be hard to leave. After over an hour of exploring and capturing images, I finally had to drag myself away and continue my trip.
