An Eclipse Adventure Like No Other
In January 2028, I'm taking just six guests to the Galápagos Islands for a week of wildlife, landscapes, snorkeling, photography and exploration, culminating in an experience I've been dreaming about for years.
The day before the annular solar eclipse, we'll leave town and head to a Galápagos beach where we'll camp for the night. We'll settle into spacious, comfortable tents, have dinner together on the beach, and wake the next morning already in position for the eclipse.
No early morning drive. No large eclipse tour. Just our small group, a Galápagos beach, and the ring of fire.

Why This Adventure Is Different
Eclipse Chasing Has Always Been Personal
I photographed my first total solar eclipse in 2017, and I've been chasing and photographing eclipses ever since. These trips have always been very personal to me. I usually travel alone, choose my own locations, and spend a lot of time planning exactly how I want to experience and photograph each eclipse.
I expect most of my future eclipse trips will continue to be that way.
But when I started planning for the 2028 annular eclipse in the Galápagos, this one felt different. The combination of the islands, the wildlife, the adventure, and the opportunity to spend the night on a secluded beach and wake up at the eclipse site felt like an experience worth sharing.
So for this eclipse, I'm opening up my adventure to six guests.
I'll be traveling with you, photographing the eclipse alongside you, and sharing what I've learned from nine years of planning and photographing eclipses. Whether you're a photographer or simply want to experience something extraordinary, you're welcome to join me.

Seven Days in the Galápagos
We'll explore Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal, venture to one of the Galápagos' uninhabited islands, encounter giant tortoises, explore incredible landscapes, and spend a day snorkeling or diving among the marine life at spectacular Kicker Rock.
The trip is intentionally small. With only six guests, we'll be able to experience the islands very differently from a large organized tour.
There will also be free time to explore, photograph or simply enjoy being in the Galápagos.
Arrive in the Galápagos and travel into the Santa Cruz highlands, where we'll begin our adventure with one of the islands' most iconic residents: the giant Galápagos tortoise.
That evening, we'll get together for a welcome dinner and get to know everyone we'll be sharing the adventure with.

Spend the day exploring one of the Galápagos' uninhabited islands by boat, with opportunities for hiking, wildlife encounters and snorkeling. Our destination will be selected based on availability.

Travel by boat to San Cristóbal, then enjoy a free afternoon to explore the beaches, trails, wildlife and coast at your own pace.

Spend the day at spectacular Kicker Rock, one of the Galápagos' most recognizable landmarks. Dive or snorkel among the marine life surrounding this dramatic volcanic formation.
We'll get together again that evening for dinner before the eclipse portion of our adventure begins the next day.

On January 25, we'll travel into the interior of San Cristóbal, stop for lunch at a local farm and visit the highlands before continuing toward the coast.
Our destination won't be another hotel.
We'll arrive at our beach eclipse site where our camp will be set up for the night. This isn't backpacking. We'll have spacious walk-in tents with comfortable sleeping pads, a shaded gathering area, dinner on the beach and our local guide.
We'll spend the evening together beside the ocean knowing that when we wake up, we'll already be exactly where we need to be for the eclipse.

On the morning of January 26, there is nowhere we need to go.
We'll already be there.
We'll have the morning to experience the beach, set up our cameras and prepare as the Moon moves across the Sun.
Then, for a few extraordinary minutes, the Sun becomes a ring.
After the eclipse, we'll return to town and have the rest of the day to enjoy San Cristóbal.

Before we head our separate ways, we'll have one last breakfast together to relax, talk about the eclipse, share photos and relive some of the experiences from the week.
Then we'll head to San Cristóbal Airport and begin our journeys home.

Do I Need to Be a Photographer?
No.
I'm a photographer, and photography will naturally be a big part of this trip. I'll be happy to share what I've learned from more than nine years of photographing eclipses and help anyone who wants assistance preparing for the eclipse.
But this isn't just for photographers.
It's for anyone who wants to experience the Galápagos, see an annular solar eclipse from an extraordinary location, and do it as part of a very small group.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a photographer?
No. You just need to want to have an amazing adventure. But you will probably have to listen to me talk a little about photography.
Can I come with a spouse or partner who isn't a photographer?
Absolutely. Bring 'em.
Do I need to be a certified diver?
No. Guests can snorkel at Kicker Rock instead. The itinerary explicitly supports both on the same boat.
What is the beach camping like?
We'll have spacious walk-in tents with sleeping pads and a shaded group area. It's still camping, but we'll be a lot more comfortable than we would be in little backpacking tents.
Are flights included?
No. Guests arrange their own flights to the Galápagos. I can help with selecting flights and offer suggestions so we can coordinate arrival and departure times.
What happens if the weather is cloudy for the eclipse?
Unfortunately, an eclipse can never be guaranteed. We'll carefully plan our location, but weather is one thing none of us can control. The Galápagos adventure happens either way, and if the eclipse gets clouded out, we will all cry together.
What is the deposit and cancellation policy?
A $1,500 deposit is required to reserve your spot. If you need to cancel, your deposit and payments are refundable according to the following schedule:
More than 180 days before departure: Full refund, less a $250 cancellation fee.
120–179 days before departure: 75% refund of payments made.
60–119 days before departure: 50% refund of payments made.
Less than 60 days before departure: Payments are non-refundable.
If I am able to fill your spot with another guest, I will make every effort to refund additional amounts that would otherwise be non-refundable.
Because this trip involves advance commitments to local guides, accommodations and excursions, travel insurance that includes trip cancellation coverage is required.
When is the remaining balance due?
Final payment due will be due by the end of July 2027.
What if the trip is canceled?
If I need to cancel the trip, payments made directly to me will be refunded. I'm not responsible for other expenses such as airfare, travel insurance or other travel arrangements. This is one of the reasons travel insurance is required.
